Responsible pet ownership includes teaching your dog good manners--and that’s exactly what can be achieved by enrolling your pup in Central Pet’s Canine Good Citizen training classes.

Started by the American Kennel Club (AKC), the Canine Good Citizen (CGC) Program is designed to reward dogs who have good manners at home and in the community. Since it’s beginning in 1989, almost one million dogs, both purebred and mixed breed, have participated in the two-part program.

How Our CGC Classes Work

Our Canine Good Citizen classes (CGC) are the natural next step for dogs who have completed Basic Obedience. The group setting provides a small but social setting in which your pet will learn how to be their very best in any environment. In addition to basic obedience, your dog will be trained on how to:

  • Properly walk on a leash
  • Sit politely for petting
  • Handle crowds and other noisy environments
  • Ignore tempting treats
  • Be accepting of friendly strangers
  • React to unknown dogs and people
  • Deal with strange noises and smells
  • Manage separation

Our experienced trainer will also teach you about pet safety, reliable products, and effective corrections in order to ensure that you and your dog are equipped for success.

Upon completion of the course, your dog will receive a certificate of achievement and you'll have a dog that you know is ready to take on the world by your side. As with all dog training classes, this is not only a great way to educate your pup but a wonderful opportunity to build and strengthen the bond between you both. It also opens your eyes to how your dog sees the world around them and what you can do to help them interact with it safely and responsibly.
