MEET OUR GROOMER
Ashanta Sana Adbur-Rauf
Ashanta (you can call her Ash for short) grew up adopting stray dogs, cats, squirrels, and random birds and other beasts in both Georgia and Massachusetts. She can not remember a time when animals weren't a part of her everyday life, much to the dismay of her poor mother.
At the age of 14 she got her very first job at a dog grooming shop as a bather/dryer. She loved it and stayed there for 7 years, perfecting her puppy scrubbing, animal handling and customer service skills. She studied Animal Sciences at UMASS in Amherst Massachusetts, with a concentration in Equine Management, but missed her bathing days so much that she decided to go and work in another shop. She was manager and lead bather/dryer for 6 years until the owner sold the shop. Cooking was another passion, so between school and work she became a cook for a bustling restaurant at the Basketball Hall of Fame. In 2007 she packed up her bunny and guinea pig and moved to Tucson, where she started a very rewarding yet emotional position at The Humane Society of Southern Arizona.
In 2010 she joined the team at Central Pet in Amado and began as a kennel technician. She loved the job but still longed for the experience of grooming, so she decided to continue on that path and became a Certified Professional Pet Groomer. She has attended many seminars and workshops from Pet First Aid, Noseworks and Pack To Basics Dog Training to Cat Grooming and a few others in between. Not only has she accomplished her goal, but she has excelled, becoming a phenomenal groomer and amazing member of our Central Pet family.
"Grooming is like a box of chocolates." She says... "You never know what you're gonna get!"
